LE GRAND PRIX de TOURS, 1923, July 1st and 2nd

  

   For the first time, the Buggati Type 32 called the "Tank" and the Voisin cars appeared on the circuits in a fierce duel.
Le Grand Prix was raced by 17 competitors : 6 foreign and 11 French. Competing with the four Buggati were the new twelve-cylinder Delage, 3 six-cylinder SUNBEAM, 2 eight-cylinder ROLLAND PILAIN, 3 new eight-cylinder FIAT and, for the first time in a Grand Prix : 4 VOISIN.

   This race was the occasion for a superb duel between the Buggati and the Voisin cars, but victory was carried off by the British pilot SEGRAVE on a SUNBEAM, while FRIEDRICH on Bugatti n°6 took the third place after three Buggati had withdrawn from the race because of accidents or mechanical troubles.

LE GRAND PRIX de l'UMF et Le Grand Prix de Tourisme

   The MOTORCYCLIST GRAND PRIX on 250/350/500 cm3 and the GRAND PRIX DE TOURISME open to light cars took place during this Grand Prix one week before, providing entertainment for over ten days.

THE CIRCUIT

Circuit de 1923

   The speed Grand Prix took place on the Touraine circuit, North of Tours, close to La Membrolle, on 22,830 kms, a distance that was to be covered 35 times (799,050 kms) with top speeds of 200km/h.
It began on la route du Mans, in Tours, road 158, went Norh-West/South-East, through La Membrolle, then on road 159 to Chateau-Lavallière with the famous S of the Etang des Jumeaux, then linked up with the 158 main road along the 48 secondary road through Semblançay, the stands being on road 158.
